Golden dolphins adorning the roof of the Main Tower! The castle of the Owari Tokugawa family is truly magnificent.

The castle was built in 1610 as a stepping stone for the unification of the whole country by Tokugawa Ieyasu. Although the Main Tower was burned down in the Second World War, it was rebuilt in 1959 along with the golden dolphins, known as Shachihoko. The Hommaru Palace, residence of the lord, is currently being reconstructed. You can’t miss the stunning screen paintings by Kano School painters.

Since one of the three sacred treasures, the legendary sword Kusanagi-no-tsurugi, is enshrined, Atsuta Shrine is highly revered. A camphor tree of 1000 years or more stands with many other tall trees, which are growing in the premises. Visitors can enjoy the peaceful passage of each season.

Experience Taishō-era romanticism at this mansion where Japan’s first actress lived in.

The Cultural Path (an area from Nagoya Castle to Tokugawa Garden) is a treasure trove of historical assets.Cultural Path Futaba Museum, with its blend of Western and Japanese styles, attracts the most attention. This is the former residence of Sadayakko Kawakami (the supposed first actress of Japan) and Momosuke Fukuzawa (the king of electric power). It has been relocated and restored, and now displays its furniture as well.

Arimatsu, a traditional town of Shibori tie-dying with over 400 years of history.

Arimatsu flourished from the beginning of the Edo period as a town of Shibori tie-dying. Visitors can learn about Shibori and its history in the museum. Shibori artisans’ proficient skills can be observed up close during the Kukuri (bundling) demonstration. Reservations in advance allow anyone to participate in hands-on learning of Shibori tie-dying. Visitors can also purchase various Shibori tie-dyed clothes and other items.

Think back to the dynamic Warring States Period and Lord Nobunaga.

The castle is the starting point for Nobunaga Oda’s military domination over Japan, and is considered as an important operational base. It was initially built in 1405, and rebuilt at the current location in 1989. After Nobunaga's death in the Honnoji Incident, the Kiyosu Conference was held at Kiyosu Castle to choose a successor.

Since its foundation in 1805, their traditional sake brewing has been passed down generations to the 14th chief brewer.

Using pure water from the Suzuka Mountains and additive-free yeast, sake is created in traditional, natural Kimoto/Yamahai-jikomi methods at Aoki Brewery. Their most popular sake brand is Komeso Yamahai Junmai, which is rich but crisp, and made from Aichi’s local rice named Wakamizu. A reservation is required at least a day in advance for a brewery tour.

Learn the history of the automobile at the museum operated by TOYOTA.

The Toyota Automobile Museum was opened in 1989 in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Toyota Motor Corporation. The Main Building exhibits classic cars of Japan, the U.S. and Europe. Hongyo Kiln’s handwork-the 'beauty of usage' by focusing on folk art.

Seto Hongyo Kiln, a location for handcraft pottery in Seto city, has been focusing on folk art since Hanjiro (the sixth) studied ceramic art under Bernard Leach and Shoji Hamada. Next to the studio, a climbing kiln that had produced many masterpieces is exhibited and open to the public. Traditional Seto wares are sold at the gallery.
